India vs Australia 2nd Test Highlights Day Two's Cricket

Watch cricket highlights from the second test - Australia vs India - day 2 played at Mohali on October 18, 2008.

Main highlights in this video: Sourav Ganguly gets a hundred (102) in his last cricket series. M S Dhoni blasts his way to 92. India end up 469 all out. Matthew Hayden is bowled by Zaheer Khan to yet again give Australia a 0/1 scorecard. Amit Mishra takes out Michael Clarke off effectively the last ball of the day and Australia are 102/4.

The subtle changes in Mahendra Singh Dhoni over the last year and a half reached an orgiastic climax for me on Day 1. One of the things over the last year that annoyed was the radical change in his game that sometimes tended to border on martyrdom. Watching him today, it took a while for my prejudices to concede the relevance of the knock, but in the end, when you consider the fact that Dhoni’s quick runs allowed Ganguly to ease his way through the morning session and contributed to a strong century stand partnership, its importance is justified. Having said that, it was quite a poor bowling performance by the Australians, in particular Brett Lee who’s had a stranglehold of sorts on Dhoni. The last two years have been brilliant for Lee – you can blame the wicket, but Mitchell Johnson and debutant Peter Siddle extracted far more.

Lee like Johnson is a great bowler and hopefully the next few games will see the magic of the last two years (but with Tendulkar dominating). The placidity of the Aussie attack was even more glaring when Zaheer Khan and Ishanth Sharma turned up a little later on.

Matthew Hayden fell for the 3rd time this series to Zaheer Khan, this time without an umpire’s helping hand. Ricky Ponting was out yet again to Ishanth Sharma after surviving a close LBW shout just a ball before. Mike Hussey had a couple of reprieves from Dhoni. The last time this happened – 1st test – he scored a century. Michael Clarke was out at Bangalore off the last ball of the day and repeated it today – a wonderful habit he has developed over the years.
