Watch the 2nd day’s highlights from the 1st test – Australia vs India – played at Bengaluru on October 10, 2008. Mike Hussey was last man out on 146. Australia: 1st innings – 430. India when rains curtailed play were 68/0 – Sehwag: 43 (7 4’s) and Gambhir 20.
Yet another on-off day. Zaheer Khan was average but then as he usually does had a brilliant late spell to polish off the Australian lower order. It was Ishanth Sharma however who dominated the sessions whenever he came on – with Mike Hussey playing a gritty Hussey knock and Haddin (33) sticking around there were times the Indians looked clueless as to what to do next. A reasonable total considering what could have been for the Indians. Sehwag came out and looked fab as always in test cricket. Exciting day 3 ahead especially with all the off-field pressure on the Indian middle order.
There was also a fair moment when Haddin after taking a catch immediately indicated it had not come off clean. What's going on?
There was one thing stark after the 1st two days – Australia’s smart but unexciting 1st innings batting – I’m thinking back to those 4-4.5 runrate days. It’s a pointer to the improvement in the Indian pace attack and the Australian’s feeling-their-way-around approach. Maybe the 3rd and 4th tests will be absolute stunners. Hopefully.
Prematch: Australia will resume at 254/4. Shane Watson who impressed during the IPL for the Rajasthan Royals and Cameron White (Bangalore Royal Challengers) still to come. There's also Haddin whom everyone seems to despise though it's not his fault Gilchrist is no longer around. Haddin in fact during the 2007 ODI tour of India had bailed Australia out several times in the company of Andrew Symonds.
