Watch cricket highlights - Australia vs India - from the 1st Test, Day 3 played at Bangalore on October 11, 2008. Late order brilliance from Harbhajan Singh (54) and Zaheer Khan (35 n.o.). India resumed at 68/0 and the morning session featured the best test cricket thus far. Though India came off the worse, it was personally satisfying to see two of my favourite bowlers, Mitchell Johnson and Brett Lee in action.
Rahul Dravid is really getting closer to his form a year back and you can almost bet on a very very important big score from him over the next 3 tests. He was eventually out for 51. Australia’s tactics were similar to the 2007-08 tour by India when Ponting had a couple of sweepers to curtail boundaries while having smart close in fielders. Tendulkar looked fab and then got out to a Johnson slower ball. Ganguly gritted it out and showed proper intent of stepping out to the Aussie spinners. Though Laxman was out for a duck, there was enough to day from the middle order to point towards a very competitive series in the offing.
But the last session was the main highlight. Apart from Zaheer Khan having a go at Brad Haddin, Harbhajan’s unique defence and attack poses, Zaheer and Harbhajan pulled out some fantastic strokes to make something that has been clear for years – if you’re prepared to take on the Ausssies you can do it and even the pitch appears to behave differently. Like VVS Laxman (281) and Rahul Dravid (180) did in 2001. India ended on 313/8. Not particularly bubbling at this point, but this test is far from being completely in Aussie hands.
